Summer care tips for your tattoo and piercing
Summer is finally here! Enjoy these sunny days to the fullest, but don't forget to give some extra love to your tattoos and piercings this summer. Heat, sweat, sunlight and swimming can all affect the healing process and the long-term look of your tattoo or piercing. Here's what we recommend.
Tattoo tips for summer
Fresh tattoo? Keep it out of direct sunlight for at least a month. Sun exposure on a healing tattoo can cause fading, irritation and a longer healing time — none of which you want.
Once your tattoo is healed, keep protecting it with SPF 50+. Good tattoos deserve good care, and sunscreen is the easiest way to keep yours looking sharp for years to come. We recommend Otzi sunblock, you can find it in the shop.
No swimming with a fresh tattoo. The pool, the sea, the lake — all of it can wait. Chlorine and saltwater are not kind to healing skin.
Drink plenty of water. Hydrated skin heals better and looks better too.
Festival(s) ahead? Love it! Just bring your aftercare and sunscreen with you, and maybe skip the mosh pit if your tattoo is fresh. Your future self will thank you.
Be mindful with contact sports and heavy exercise while your tattoo is healing. Sweat and friction can make the healing process trickier and affect the final result. Wear loose clothes during your workout and once you’re finished, don’t forget to rinse your tattoo with lukewarm water.
Piercing tips for summer
Always follow your aftercare instructions. Your piercer gave them to you because they genuinely care about your healing — and they make all the difference.
We love a good SPF routine, but keep sunscreen away from your piercing. It can cause irritation and nobody wants that. Besides that, we recommend staying out of the sun with a fresh piercing too.
Be careful with towels, earbuds and headphones. Any friction or pressure on a fresh piercing can lead to an irritation bump — and we want yours to heal beautifully.
No swimming for at least 4 weeks with a fresh piercing. Not the pool, not the ocean. Give it time.
Keep your piercing dry and happy. Pat the area gently with clean paper towels after sweating or getting wet.
Small habit, big difference.
